Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives, was detained early on Friday morning by Rivers State Police Command agents for allegedly having $500,000 on the eve of the 2023 general elections.

Igwe, a supporter of the opposition party’s presidential candidate, was detained on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital.

A list of how the money will be dispersed to beneficiaries in the 23 local government districts of the State, security organizations, and the Independent National Electoral Commission was also discovered by the police in addition to the foreign currency that was reportedly in his possession (INEC).
