Prior to the March 11 governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has urged Governor Seyi Makinde and his supporters to cease saying that Bola Tinubu has endorsed them.

This was said in a statement released on Thursday in Ibadan and signed by its publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), there have been hints from the Government House that Mr. Makinde was crucial to Mr. Tinubu’s victory in the state on February 25.

The claimed assertions by Mr. Makinde that he had Tinubu’s support were called “an height of desperation and insincerity” by the APC spokesperson.

Mr. Sadare questioned the justification for the rumors that Mr. Makinde had already given the APC two pending seats in addition to the three senatorial seats and eight House seats.

The malicious rumor is being spread by some dishonest people who want to mislead the public and gain unwarranted sympathy from some people outside of the state.

To clear up any confusion, the Oyo PDP did everything in its power to ensure that all of its candidates won on February 25.

“But, they fell short merely because Oyo APC outperformed them in terms of strategy, preparation, and people resources.

If they are being sincere, “we challenge Makinde or any of his operatives to show any evidence of the alleged agreement or contract between them and Tinubu,” he stated.

The APC presidential candidate’s courtesy visit to the Agodi Government Secretariat on the day of the presidential rally, according to Mr. Sadare, was the only resource they had.

According to him, such a courtesy visit took place because a statesman like Mr. Tinubu couldn’t visit a state on official business without paying a courtesy call to the governor in office.

“The five disgruntled PDP Governors were, in actuality, inexperienced and lacking in political acumen.

“Gov. Wike was the only one of them with the guts to support Tinubu’s campaign.

“Wike did not do this at the expense of his PDP because all of the APC’s candidates for the National Assembly in his state were unsuccessful.

“In the case of Oyo, there was no record of any serving PDP appointee or political office holder who mobilized for Tinubu or any other APC candidate at the polls,” he stated.

According to Mr. Sadare, the fact that the PDP candidates were successful in winning in four or five federal constituencies showed how seriously they took the election.

He asserted that “the president-elect is a core progressive and democrat who can never engage in anti-party actions,” thus the claims about an agreement with Tinubu “couldn’t fly.”

Mr. Sadare claims that Teslim Folarin would guarantee the early and complete payment of salaries and other entitlements owed to public employees and pensioners if elected governor. He will improve everyone’s quality of life.

“Governor Makinde would not have to be paranoid to face the electorate again as he seeks re-election if he had done well in the last four years,” Oyo APC remarked. (NAN)
