The N1000 National Identification Number (NIN) verification charge for applications, renewals, and issuance of international passports for Nigerians residing in Nigeria has been announced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The NIMC further stated that Nigerians living in other African nations would pay $3 (or its equivalent in other currencies) for the same reason, while those living in other continents would pay $10 (or its equivalent in other currencies).
The new arrangement is in support of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy’s instruction to streamline passport application, renewal, and issuance processes, according to a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC.
“Wants to notify the public that it has developed and approved a framework with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to significantly improve the quality of service, accuracy, and speed of passport services through the prompt verification of the National Identification Number,” the statement reads (NIN).
“NIMC and NIS have reached an understanding over a revamped applicant journey that will greatly speed up passport issuance/re-issuance and decrease traffic at the NIS office” (s). The NIN service, fees, and new NIS process will take into effect on April 1, 2023, according to the statement.
