PDP’S ENO WINS THE AKWA IBOM GOVERNOR’S SEAT

After receiving 356,346 votes to overcome his rivals, Pastor Umo Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.
Obong Bassey Albert Akpan of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), who received 136,262 votes, came in second. With 129,602, Obong Akanimo Udofia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) placed third.

Following closely behind with 125,09 votes, the Labour Party received 4,746 votes, and the other parties are listed in that order.

Eno was proclaimed the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom State.

The results were announced on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Uyo by Professor Emmanuel Adigio, the state returning officer and vice chancellor of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta State.

According to The Nation, the PDP won in 29 out of the 31 local governments, while the YPP won in just two.

Udung Uko, Uruan, Ini, Esit Eket, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, Etim Ekpo, and 22 other local governments were won by PDP candidates, but Senator Bassey Akpan of the YPP won in the Ikono and Ibiono Ibom LGAs, respectively.

The YPP party agent, Mr. Kelvin Umoh, contested the results, however, and said that there had been widespread violence and intimidation that had resulted in the murder of party supporters.

It would be improper for me to add my signature to the results sheets because there was extensive intimidation and violence, according to Umoh.

While praising the INEC for the improvement seen in the elections on Saturday, the PDP agent, Engr. Uwem Okoko, also praised the Akwa Ibom people for their support of the PDP in the state.
