The renowned American TV presenter Jerry Springer passed away at the age of 79.

Following a brief illness, he passed away quietly on Thursday at his home in the Chicago region, according to his family.

Springer served as Cincinnati’s mayor and Robert F. Kennedy’s political campaign consultant before beginning a career in television that included work as a political reporter and pundit.

His namesake tabloid talk show, The Jerry Springer Show, which he usually finished with the tagline “Take care of yourself and each other,” made him famous as a politician-turned-presenter.

It was previously dubbed the worst television program ever but has since proven to be a ratings powerhouse, being synonymous with strippers, food battles, and physical altercations. From 1991 to 2018, it has a total of 27 seasons and around 5,000 episodes.
