Ahead of the May 29 presidential inauguration ceremony, which is scheduled to take place in Eagle Square in Abuja, the Nigeria Police Force issued traffic diversion announcements.
The Federal Capital Territory’s police public relations officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated in a statement on Friday that the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway by the Court of Appeal, Deeper Life Junction, Bond/Total Filling Station, POWA/FCDA Junction, Finance Junction by ECOWAS/Women Affairs, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are the diversion points.
Other detour spots are Eagle Square (Phase 1 and Phase 11), Kur Muhammad Way / National Mosque, Abia House, NITEL Junction near Ademola Adetokunbo, and Gana Junction/Transcorp, according to Adeh.
“Traffic will also be diverted at Bayelsa House by Federal High Court, Aso Drive, Ceddi Plaza, NNPC Twin Tower, and NNPC/NBS.”
In order to ensure a secure and orderly inauguration, the SP said that the leadership had also distributed personnel and material resources, including intelligence and tactical assets, throughout the FCT.
She claimed that by taking these steps, the inauguration will be calm and any harm to the country’s democratic process will be avoided.
Adeh went on to say that the operational deployment was characterized by visibility police across the entire region, stop-and-search duties, raids on “black spots” led by intelligence, surveillance, and vehicle/foot patrol.
“The leadership also wishes to inform the public of projected fireworks planned to take place at the City Gate and the Millennium Tower at midnight on May 28 to herald in the new administration.
She said, “Messrs. Innate Arts and Media will perform the fireworks.”
