Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who is the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio are currently meeting President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
This follows today’s election of Akpabio as the nation’s Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
Our source saw Uzodinma enter the president’s office building at around 12:30 on Tuesday, while Akpabio had arrived earlier.
The governor of Imo, who oversaw a “small technical committee to help coordinate the process of Tuesday’s election” in the Senate and the House of Representatives, expressed optimism for Akpabio’s victory on Monday.
Before 9:00 am, the vote for the new Senate President had begun, pitting Akpabio against Senator-elect Abdul’aziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State.
After a brief break, Sani Tambuwal, the Clerk of the National Assembly, announced that Akpabio had won 63 votes, leaving his opponent with 46.
