Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, Commander of the Osun State Amotekun Corps, announced on Tuesday that his unit detained a suspected prominent cult leader in Ilesa on Monday.
According to Adewinmbi, the culprit, Taiwo Ogunsola, alias Taiwo Portable, was detained Monday midnight after a complaint about his nefarious actions was made at the Amotekun Ilesa Area Command.
He stated that the defendant, who had been on the wanted list of the Osun Police Anti-Cultism Unit for a long time, was detained with a Dane gun and an axe at his apartment.
“On Monday midnight, Taiwo Ogunsola, 29, alias Taiwo Portable, was arrested by Osun Amotekun Corps for cultism activities in the Olomilagbala area of Ilesa, Osun State.”
“He was arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Amotekun Ilesa Area Command about the activities of him and his gang members in Ilesa,” he said.
According to Adewinmbi, during interrogation, the suspect admitted to being a longtime member of the Eiye confraternity as well as to various criminal actions conducted out in Ilesa and its vicinity.
He stated that the suspect has been turned over to police for further investigation and prosecution.
Following that, the Amotekun commander praised Ilesa citizens for giving the corps with information that resulted to the suspect’s detention.
He urged locals to always submit important information and intelligence to security officials in order to help reduce crime and apprehend criminal suspects in the state (NAN).
