Tunji Wusu –

Following the calling of one witness and the submission of some documents before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ended its defense of the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
After an Information Technology (IT) Practitioner with INEC, (its lone witness), Dr. Lawrence Bayode, adopted his written evidence and was cross-examined by attorneys for the respondents and the petitioners, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), proclaimed the conclusion of his client’s case.

According to Bayode, a Deputy Director in INEC’s IT Department, there were technical difficulties that prevented the real-time transmission of the presidential election results.

He continued by saying, among other things, that the integrity of the scores already recorded in the polling unit results sheets (Form EC8A) cannot be impacted by whether results were manually or electronically submitted.

The attorney representing Tinubu, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), informed the court that the second respondent (Tinubu) will commence his defense on Tuesday after Mahmoud announced the conclusion of his client’s case.
