Tunji Wusu –
In order to protect them from the rising expense of living, President William Ruto rejected a proposed compensation increase put forth by the Salaries & Remuneration Commission for him and other senior government officials.
According to the President, he has instructed the SRC to put a stop on the proposed wage review until the commission determines if it is consistent with industry standards for reducing income disparities. Speaking on Friday, June 30, 2023, Ruto suggested that beginning on July 1, 2023, teachers, police officers, and other lower-level civil officials receive compensation increases of 7–10%.
We have agreed that other civil officials’ salaries may be modified starting tomorrow due to the current economic climate, Ruto remarked. Until SRC attained international standards in the rationalization of wages for all federal personnel, he claimed, high government officials’ salaries would continue to be unnecessary.
