Tunji Wusu –
Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti, has criticized those who have pressed him to explain how he appropriated monies while in office.
Furious Fayose advised his detractors to “go to court” while fielding questions on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Sunday. He also said that he earned his money outside of politics.
Asked if he would share information on how he used state finances while serving as governor of Ekiti, he responded, “That’s a pretty useless question. Anyone who is not happy should also take me to court, as they have charged me.
“How am I supposed to justify my use of Ekiti funds? I was a governor who never took out a loan of any kind. The people of Ekiti will never forget the good deeds I performed.
“Do you believe I’m a pauper, do you (addressing the anchor) think? I earned my money before you started hosting. So avoid going there entirely. Let people go to court if their money disappears.
The PDP leader and his business, Spotless Investment Limited, are being investigated for allegedly defrauding N6.9 billion.
On July 2, 2019, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arrested Fayose and Spotless on an 11-count accusation that has elements of both theft and money laundering.
On October 22, 2018, the defendants were initially arraigned before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.
Later, the matter was continued for trial on May 8 and 9, and June 6, 8, 2023.
