Tunji Wusu –
The illegal sit-at-home order issued by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reportedly being enforced by 26 people, according to the Imo State Police command.
53 other individuals who were involved in crimes such auto theft, armed robbery, murder, defilement, kidnapping, child trafficking, illegal possession of illegal firearms, and damage to NEPA wires were also detained.
Speaking at a press conference at the command headquarters in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, the command’s spokesman Henry Okoye said the sit-at-home enforcers, who are currently in their custody and are being subjected to serious questioning and an investigation, are believed to be members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate ESN. They were apprehended following a shootout between them and police officers at the Irete
The police spokesman, who also paraded 53 additional suspects suspected of participating in various criminal activities, stated that Mohammed Barde, the commissioner of police, and the hierarchy of the command are working assiduously to create a secure environment that will allow socioeconomic activities to flourish in the state. He also urged the public to disregard the illegally imposed sit-at-home order by criminal syndicates, whose specialty is inciting fear.
