Tunji Wusu –
The Federal Government has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss the “illegal possession of firearms” lawsuit it brought against suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of the Federal Ministry of Justice, informed Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application came as a consequence of additional government investigations.
Justice Oweibo postponed making a decision on the application until Thursday, August 17, 2023.
The DPP stated that a new 20 charges had been filed against the suspended CBN governor at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in an interview with press following the proceedings.
He claimed that Emefiele was accused of “conferring unlawful advantages” in one of the indictments.
