DATE SET FOR JUDGMENT DELIVERY REGARDING 2023 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION BY TRIBUNAL

According to reports, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) has set Saturday, September 16 as the deadline for issuing its definitive decision about the results of the 2023 presidential election.

It is impossible to confirm the exact date, but the Tribunal has until September 16, 2023 (a maximum of 180 days from the filing of the petitions) to rule on the petitions contesting President Bola Tinubu’s election as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presidential candidate in the elections of February 25, according to the Constitution.

Recall that the five-member panel presided over by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani reserved judgment after adopting the final written addresses of the parties involved in the lawsuit and stated that the parties involved and their attorneys would be informed of the verdict’s delivery date.

The tribunal has until the aforementioned day to rule on the three petitions filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Labour Party (LP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their respective presidential candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Princess Chichi Ojei.

Tinubu, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are the defendants in the proceedings. The panel hasn’t officially announced a date, though, for issuing its decision.
According to Charles Oputa, a Nigerian entertainer better known by his stage name Charly Boy Area Fada 1, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has set September 16 for the decision on the petitions contesting President Bola Tinubu’s election.

Charly Boy in a post on his official X handle, urged supporters of Obi known as Obidients to get ready for the judgement. The post reads, “OBIDIENTS ARE U Ready? Tribunal (PEPT) has announced that the judgment date for the cases involving Peter Obi and the Labour Party against Bola Tinubu, INEC, Shettima, and APC, as well as the PDP’s case of Atiku against APC, INEC, and Tinubu, is scheduled for September 16, 2023.”
