Tuesday’s Champions League match between Lazio and Atletico Madrid ended in a 1-1 tie thanks to a goalkeeper’s equalizer from Lazio, Ivan Provedel, who advanced and headed in the goal in stoppage time.

Provedel, who was making his Champions League debut, displayed his unexpected attacking abilities by meeting a cross from Luis Alberto with a glancing header on the final play of the game at the Stadio Olimpico.

Provedel, who was furious following Pablo Barrios’ first-half goal for Atletico with a shot that took a significant deflection off Lazio player Daichi Kamada, got some sort of payback.

This is going to be fun for me. However, we only earned a single point, and we lost, according to Provedel, who said that he based his offensive strategy on Lazio center forward Ciro Immobile.

Celtic lost 2-0 to Feyenoord in the other Group E game.

Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid coach who helped Lazio win the 2000 Serie A championship and three other titles with the Roman club, was welcomed back by Lazio supporters prior to kickoff.

“Your home will always be in Rome and Lazio. The words “Welcome back, Cholo, our champion of Italy” were written in Italian on a banner that Lazio’s ardent “ultra” fans were waving.

Lazio is taking part in the Champions League for just the second time in 16 seasons, whereas Atletico has participated in 11 consecutive groups.

Lazio created a lot more opportunities, with Mattia Zaccagni and Luis Alberto both missing numerous opportunities.

Additionally, in the second half, Immobile was unable to capitalize on a misdirected pass from Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Before Provedel’s goal, Danilo Cataldi had a long shot that Oblak leapt to deflect wide.

During the first half, Lazio’s left back Luca Pellegrini suffered an injury.
