Babatunji Wusu –
Imo State Labour Party governorship candidate Senator Athan Achonu recently raised concerns about the escalating insecurity in Okigwe Local Government Area. He reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requesting his intervention in addressing the state of lawlessness. Achonu also urged President Tinubu to call Governor Hope Uzodimma to order regarding the ongoing violence in the state. He expressed that the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property could have been prevented with a more serious and dedicated approach to providing security by the state government.
In response to the escalating security issues in the state Achonu voiced his concerns yesterday. He urged all residents to hold the state government accountable for the current predicament. Additionally he appealed to President Tinubu to promptly establish a panel of inquiry to investigate the recent killings and bombings that have devastated numerous villages in the Imo North senatorial district resulting in the loss of many lives including soldiers.
“He expressed his concerns over the current state of insecurity in Izombe and Oguta describing them as no-go areas. He warned that if this alarming trend is not addressed promptly it could lead to apathy among the people during the upcoming gubernatorial election.”
I want to assure you all that we are taking this matter very seriously and doing everything in our power to protect our citizens and bring the culprits to justice. The safety and well-being of our people are our top priorities and we will not rest until peace is restored.
I urge the media to play a crucial role in investigating these attacks and bringing the truth to light. Your voices hold immense power and by exposing the perpetrators and their motives we can join forces to save our country from further harm.
Let us stand together as one nation united against these acts of violence and work towards a brighter future for all. With your support and cooperation we can overcome these challenges and restore peace and prosperity to our great nation.
I assure you that no effort will be spared in ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. We are deploying additional security forces to the affected areas intensifying surveillance and implementing measures to suppress these attacks. We will not allow fear and violence to dictate our lives.
In conclusion I want to reiterate that these bombings in the 21st century are an affront to our progress and the values we hold dear. We will not let such acts divide us or undermine our determination to build a peaceful and prosperous society. Together we can overcome these challenges and build a better future for ourselves and our children. Thank you and may God bless our nation.
“I would like to once again appeal to Mr. President to take immediate action by establishing a high-powered investigative panel to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the widespread killings and destruction of property currently being experienced in Imo State. Furthermore I urge the President to utilize his authority to call upon the leadership in Imo to address this urgent matter.
In response to these concerns Chief Oguwike Nwachuku the Media Adviser to Governor Uzodimma criticized Achonu asserting that he is the only individual who seems to have no interest in restoring peace to Okigwe. Chief Nwachuku went on to highlight Achonu’s tendency to exaggerate issues stating that he raises alarms even in situations as ordinary as natural childbirth. It appears that Achonu is the sole individual unwilling to see peace restored to Okigwe. We must prioritize the welfare of the region’s law-abiding hardworking citizens allowing them to live their lives normally free from the grips of bandits.”
