Babatunji Wusu –
The funds used for the postponed 2023 population and housing census are going to be the subject of an investigation into the National Population Commission (NPC).
The House of Representatives, the National Assembly’s lower house, decided on Wednesday to look into the more than 200 billion Naira that was spent on the “failed” Census.
This comes after a motion made by Hon. Dominic Okafor, who alerted the legislators to the amounts that had been spent.
The 2023 Population and Housing Census was originally slated for May 3–7, but former President Muhammadu Buhari approved its postponement to a date to be decided by the incoming administration.
Following a meeting with a few members of the Federal Executive Council at the time, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), and his staff, Buhari accepted the postponement.
However, because of the instability, the lawmakers couldn’t agree on how to carry out the census this year.
NPC, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s major data mining commission, would now have to respond to inquiries concerning the money that has already been spent on the projected Census. NPC is in charge of gathering, compiling, analyzing, and releasing data about the Nigerian people and economy.
