Babatunji Wusu –
The attack on Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is deplorable, according to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
Men who were allegedly loyal to Uzodinma and working with the Imo State Police command brutalized Ajaero last week.
The Imo Police command, however, refuted the rumors, claiming that it placed Ajaero in protective custody following intelligence of an impending mob attack on the union’s chairman.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, Uzodimma insisted he would never condone violence and expressed sadness for both the government and the attack on Ajaero.
In addition, the governor expressed regret to the NLC president and asked him to behave more politely.
“I didn’t know that the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was in my state,” he declared. That’s what I did in order to denounce the behavior. I have never had a conflict with the union.
It is unrelated to my government. I will not wish this upon any human being, Joe Ajaero or not, for him to be the President of NLC. I must apologize, of course, as it took place in my state.
“I believe in God and am a Christian.” I’m unable to condone violence. I will always be against violence. My government and I must be sorry for whatever happened to Joe Ajaero in my state that I am unaware of and that resulted in his being assaulted.
“I would also like him to act in a more refined manner going future. That was my main argument. A man from my state to walk the streets without removing me from office or presenting me with all the accusations.
