Governor Duoye Diri, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Bayelsa State Governorship election, has been re-elected.
Diri was elected in Bayelsa State after the results of the previous local government, Southern Ijaw, were released.
Diri won re-election by winning six local government areas, while his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), won two.
After the Southern Ijaw result was announced, the gap between Diri and his nearest challenger, Timipre Sylva, increased to 65,088 votes.
Diri received 175,196 votes, while Sylva received 110,108.
At the collation center in Yenagoa, the state capital, officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are finishing touches to the exercise.
