Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, has claimed that Nigeria accomplished in 24 years what took America 185.
Speaking to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, November 29, President Bola Tinubu presented his 2024 budget. Akpabio praised Tinubu, who served as a senator before becoming president, saying it took America 185 years to do that.
From 1992 to 1993, President Tinubu served as a senator, and Vice President Kashim Shettima served as a senator from 2019 to 2023.
It is stated that an eagle’s talons always point toward the earth, regardless of how high it soars, according to Akpabio. We are aware, Your Excellency, that no matter how far you climb, this Assembly will always be in your heart.
“Mr. President, it has been 247 years since the United States became a democracy. However, it wasn’t until the 185th anniversary that it was able to produce two former senators, Lyndon B. Johnson and John F. Kennedy, as president and vice president, respectively.
But in just 24 years of democracy, we have accomplished what it took the USA 185 years to do. In addition to the two previous Distinguished Senators who currently lead our beloved nation as President and Vice President, numerous graduates of this Assembly hold positions of public trust, including: Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Federal Government; Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives; and more Senators in the Cabinet.”
