Babatunji Wusu –

Security personnel have found an illegal oil refining warehouse in Mabushi, Abuja, working with other security personnel.

Following a clamp-down exercise on Thursday, Mukhtar Galadima, the director of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Department of Development Control, made this discovery.

Galadima disclosed that three or four plots of land that were set aside for commercial use had been transformed into a facility where tainted oil and diesel are mixed and then dispersed over the city.

He denounced the move and underlined that the administration will keep up its tough measures against unapproved operations in the nation’s capital, especially the revocation of titles.

“We found an illegal refining site where oil and diesel are being adulterated during the continuation of our city sanitation exercise in Mabushi, across from the Mobil filling station on Ahmadu Way. We have taken the appropriate action by moving the items to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.”

As far as we can tell, three or four commercially authorized plots of land have been switched to unapproved uses, and we think the owners are fully aware that this will have negative implications.

Galadima was quoted in the Daily Post as saying, “We are going to look at the provision of the law and make necessary recommendations to the FCT Administration.”
