Babatunji Wusu –
Along with two other victims, the father of Suleiman Idris, the deputy chairman of the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, who was abducted along with seven other people three weeks ago in Yewuti, has been released.
They were freed only after their captors received a N5 million ransom.
The relatives of the vice chairman’s father paid N2 million for their release, while the families of the other two victims paid N3 million, according to a family member who talked to journalists under condition of anonymity.
About a month prior, unidentified gunmen broke into Yewuti, the hometown of Alhaji Zubairu Jirbin Yewuti, the former vice chairman of the Kwali local council, and abducted six people, including the current vice chairman’s father, holding them at gunpoint.
Daily Trust claims that one of the four other kidnapped victims—all from the same family—was shot and killed in the kidnappers’ den when the relatives were unable to come up with the N5 million ransom that the abductors had demanded.
“The source informed journalists that the kidnappers’ leader became enraged and shot one of the captives dead during a phone conversation when the man negotiating with them stated the victim’s family could only raise N500,000.”
Nevertheless, as at the time this report was filed, security personnel had not verified the most recent development.
