Babatunji Wusu –

Following his contentious denial of President Bola Tinubu’s offer to become a minister, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has declared he is going to take up a new position.

President Tinubu sent El-Rufai’s name to the National Assembly for verification and vetting before appointing him as a minister in his administration.

But for security concerns, the MPs rejected his clearance.

Weeks after the drama, on Monday, December 4, the former governor announced that he would be taking up his role as Afri-Venture Capital Company Ltd.’s part-time chairman of the board again.

El-Rufai continued, “The company’s goal is to support, develop, and mentor young Nigerian innovators and entrepreneurs (as well as those around Africa).

The former governor of Kaduna State posted the following on his X platform account: “MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENT: With the grace of God, I can certify that our VC-PE company, Afri-Venture Capital Company Ltd., will open for business in Abuja in January 2024. Jimi Lawal, Hafiz Bayero, Eyo Ekpo, and Kabir Yabo will serve as the company’s founding directors and initial stockholders. It is an honor for me to serve as the Board’s part-time chairman.

“We hope to finance, nurture, and mentor Nigerian and soon African innovators and entrepreneurs to become the Dangote Group of the future. Please pray for our success.”
