On Monday, a sizable gathering of University of Calabar (Unical) students demonstrated against the university administration’s decision to raise tuition fees by holding banners.
The university administration said on Sunday that some courses would now charge between N109,000 and N160,000 in addition to the previous N75,000; students in the medical, allied, and physical sciences would pay the highest tuition compared to those in the arts and humanities.
Students at the institution became incensed over the development and staged protests on campus, carrying placards that read, among other things, “Don’t Force Us into Prostitution, VC Never You Force Us into Yahoo, Yahoo, And Kidnapping to Pay High School Fee” and “President Tinubu, must not keep mum on this issue.”
The students who led a nonviolent procession across the campus while shouting patriotic anthems fit for warriors heading into battle.
