Babatunji Wusu –

All fifty of the automobiles that Governor Dauda Lawal’s predecessor, Bello Matawalle, is said to have stolen have apparently been found by the Zamfara state government.

Sani Sambo, the spokesperson for Governor Dauda Lawal, told reporters during a press conference on Thursday in Gusau that the recovery is a result of a decision rendered last Friday by the Federal High Court in Sokoto.

Sambo stressed that while the former governor had previously denied owning any government property when he left office, the procedure of retrieving the vehicles from his homes in Gusau and Maradun was done carefully.

Additionally, Sambo emphasized that rather than conducting a witch hunt or damaging the reputations of others, the administration, headed by Governor Dauda Lawal, is dedicated to bringing about the necessary growth in the state.

As Lawal took office as governor of Zamfara on May 29, 2023, the scandal involving the stolen operable vehicles at the Government House in Gusau and the abuse of public funds surfaced.

Consequently, many vehicles were retrieved from Matawalle’s residences in Gusau and Maradun after security forces conducted searches on them.

In order to prevent the state administration from taking such action until the court made its ruling, the previous governor moved swiftly to obtain an order from the court.

The state government, however, persisted in pressing the Sokoto court to reject the former governor’s lawsuit against it.
