Babatunji Wusu –
Chukwuemeka Ezeife, the former governor of Anambra State, passed away. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in 2023, expressed his sorrow over his passing.
At the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja, Ezeife, who was 85 years old, passed away on Thursday at approximately 6 p.m.
In response to the news on Friday, Obi released a statement in which he expressed grief at the passing of Ezeife, an extraordinary patriot and elder statesman.
He described Ezeife as a de-tribalized Nigerian nationalist who stayed committed to the cause of good government and made a significant contribution to the country’s growing democratic principles.
Obi referred to Ezeife as a father figure whose counsel, support, and words of wisdom had a profoundly positive effect on him.
The country has lost a magnificent person, according to the former governor of Anambra, whose kind heart and insightful advice are required during this difficult time for our country.
He said: “I received with sadness and shock the report of the death of an exceptional patriot, an elder statesman, and the First Civilian Governor of New Anambra State, Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Okwadike Igboukwu, last night.
“He was a de-tribalized Nigerian nationalist who remained dedicated to the cause of good governance in Nigeria and contributed immensely to deepening the democratic ideals of our dear nation.
“To me, he was a father figure whose words of wisdom, advice, and encouragement greatly impacted me positively. In his death, Nigeria has lost a great soul whose kind heart and wise counsel are needed at this time of our travails as a nation.
“May God who called him home grant him eternal rest, and grant his family, and all of us who mourn him, the fortitude to bear his sad irreplaceable loss.”
