The unintentional bombardment of Tundun Biri village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State resulted in the deaths of residents, a move denounced by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate for 2023.
During the Maulud celebration in the hamlet, an incident triggered by the Nigerian Army resulted in at least 87 fatalities and approximately 76 injuries.
Speaking on Sunday night, the former governor of Anambra State denied that the unintentional bombing was a work of God on the Twitter platform Parallel Facts.
Obi pleaded on all levels of government and well-meaning Nigerians to assist in establishing a foundation for the recompense of families impacted by the bombing tragedy and other incidents of a similar nature.
The LP flagbearer thanked the military and other security services for their efforts in keeping the nation safe, but added that they must exercise greater prudence and professionalism in their work to prevent embarrassment of this nature.
In order to prevent future innocent losses, Obi further urged the security services to collaborate with trustworthy human intelligence reports from the ground before to any offensive attack.
He said: “The bombing that happened in Kaduna that took the lives of about 120 people was never an act of God! I don’t believe in that.”
