According to President Bola Tinubu, none of his appointees will be permitted to offer justifications for failing to fulfill their allocated tasks and obligations.
During his Monday New Year’s speech, Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation and giving his all for the good of the Nigerian people.
“I took an oath to serve this country and give my best at all times,” declared the president. As I have previously stated, there will be no justification for subpar work from any of my appointees.
For this reason, I established a Policy Coordination, Evaluation, Monitoring, and Delivery Unit during my presidency to ensure that the results of governance enhance the quality of life for the people.
“The evaluation parameters have been established. Ministers and heads of agencies that have a future in this administration, which I lead, will continue to emerge during the first quarter of this year.
“Dear Nigerians, my main goal in office has been to create a just and equitable society and stop the growing disparity. I have worked toward this goal as a senator in the failed Third Republic, as governor of Lagos State for eight years, and as president currently.
“While I think the wealthy should be allowed to enjoy their rightfully acquired wealth, our minimum agreement must be that any Nigerian with sufficient hard and diligent work will have an opportunity to succeed.”
“It is important to note that even though God gave each of us unique abilities and qualities, I cannot promise that our efforts will yield the same results.
“However, my government will endeavor to provide every Nigerian with an equal opportunity to strive and prosper in the New Year 2024 and beyond.”
On November 1, 2023, the President gave the ministers in his cabinet an order to fulfill their mandates to the best of their abilities, stating that this was the only option for them to keep their positions.
At the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu made these remarks when he opened the 2023 Cabinet Retreat for Ministers, Presidential Aides, Permanent Secretaries, and other high-ranking government employees.
“The best minds we can put together in the civil service, the brains that we can put together in our democratic parliament, and that have been chosen for us by the public,” he had declared, “I’m here to assure you and walk with you.”
Additionally, the GCFR made it clear that the ministers and other cabinet members would have to either perform or face termination. He said that, as President, the responsibility ends at his table.
Tinubu emphasized that their performance will be evaluated on a regular basis and that their seats would only be kept based on their performance.
“You have nothing to worry if you are performing. We’ll go over the goal again if you miss it. If you don’t perform, you’re going to leave us. The President declared, “No one is an island, and the responsibility lies with my desk.”
However, Tinubu pointed out in the New Year’s greeting that all Nigerians must show support and cooperation for the government’s good intentions on an individual and collective level, adding that creating a wealthy Nigeria is not a task for a select few.
As members of this Nigerian household, we are linked to one other’s destinies. Even when they diverge, our language, creed, nationality, and religious convictions shouldn’t ever force us to operate against one another.
As co-heirs to the Nigerian commonwealth, let us make a resolution this New Year to strive toward the stability, prosperity, and peace of our nation. I’m addressing my political rivals from the previous election with this call. The election is done. For the benefit of our nation, it is time for us all to cooperate.
The President emphasized, “We must let the light each of us—men and women, young and old—shine brighter and brighter to illuminate our path to a glorious dawn.”
He emphasized that better times are coming for Nigeria in 2024 and urged the people to remain thankful to God for His kindness and mercy shown to them in 2023.
“The past year was eventful in so many ways, despite being extremely tough.
It was a year of transition for our nation, with a successful, peaceful handover of power from one administration to the next, which represents another historic milestone in our 24 years of uninterrupted democracy.
The President promised that the numerous vital sectors for which funding has been authorized in the 2024 budget would meet the people’s urgent requirements.
In the general election held on February 25, 2023, Tinubu won the presidency.
On May 29, 2023, he took over as President Muhammadu Buhari and was sworn in.
