Babatunji Wusu –
Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has officially assumed leadership of the Ministry’s operations.
President Bola Tinubu directed Enitan to investigate the purported transfer of public cash into a private account on Betta Edu’s instruction, the suspended minister.
Remember how the minister was placed on suspension by the President and told to turn herself over to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation’s Permanent Secretary?
Tinubu further instructed Edu to completely comply with the investigating authorities as they carry out their probe, according to a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, one of the employees of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) gave Enitan a letter on Monday night instructing him to assume control of the ministry.
Although the Permanent Secretary is the best person to provide an update on the development, one of the Permanent Secretary’s officials, who spoke with the newspaper anonymously, acknowledged that the letter was given to him.
When informed of the need to get the views of the Permanent Secretary in person, he said: “You know, in civil service, there’s no vacuum.
“And just like you are all aware, the President directed that the perm sec should oversee the affairs of the Ministry.
“So, the right person to talk to you is actually the Permanent Secretary. But he went out for a meeting now.
“But in terms of communicating to the Perm Sec, the Presidency has done that.
“He has been duly informed to take over.”
