Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, has immediately enforced a 24-hour curfew on the Mangu Local Government Area.
In a statement made public on Tuesday, Gyang Bere, the governor’s director of press and public affairs, affirmed this dramatic move.
The security situation in the Mangu area is rapidly deteriorating, prompting the installation of the curfew.
The governor’s administration stated that this decision was made in large part due to growing worries about law and order.
In Bere’s words, the curfew was decided upon as an essential measure to bring peace back to Mangu LGA and stop the security issues from getting worse.
The goal of this action is to ensure the security of lives and property, as the governor’s office has emphasized that public safety is of the utmost importance.
Mangu LGA residents are now obliged to stay inside as security agents have been instructed to make sure that the curfew is strictly adhered to.
It is anticipated that emergency responders and essential services will be excluded.
“Governor Mutfwang took the decision after consulting with the relevant security agencies,” the statement said in that section.
“Until further notice, he said, only those with vital jobs are permitted to relocate inside the local government region.
“In order to restore peace and order in the area, he encouraged all individuals, especially those who resided in the Mangu Local Government Area, to abide by the mandate and support the security personnel by offering trustworthy information.
“Despite the government’s efforts to put an end to terrorist elements’ operations, he bemoaned the fact that some people are still committed to create an atmosphere of insecurity in the state.
“He assured the families of the injured and the victims that the government will not give up on establishing enduring peace in the state and expressed his condolences to their families.”He pledged that as soon as the security situation improves, the curfew will be revisited.
