Babatunji Wusu –
The Lagos State administration led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has removed the prohibition on the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria’s (RTEAN) operations.
Sola Giwa, the governor’s special transportation advisor, said Wednesday that this choice was reached following thorough deliberation and consultation with all pertinent parties, including association members, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the general public.
Giwa also announced the immediate dissolution of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators’ Committee, which was in charge of overseeing the state’s parks and garage facilities.
According to him, the action is intended to guarantee the smooth operation of transportation services inside the state, encourage harmony and peaceful cohabitation, and develop a more cooperative relationship between the government and the transport union.
In the end, it’s anticipated that these initiatives will lead to better public services.
Giwa underlined that in order to maintain peaceful and long-lasting operations in the transportation sector, it is critical that all parties completely abide by the terms and circumstances of the settlement.
In addition, he asked them to work together and pool their resources to build a better transportation system that would serve the interests of every Lagos State citizen.
The state government formed a Caretaker Committee to manage the union’s business and suspended RTEAN’s operations throughout the state in September 2022.
