The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced intentions to give Nigerians access to food goods that have been seized in an effort to lessen the country’s current misery.
In various areas of the nation, a large number of Nigerians had protested in the streets over the dire circumstances they were facing and the exorbitant cost of food.
In response to the pressing issues of food security and the skyrocketing prices of necessities in Nigeria, Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, stated that he is willing to dispose of food items that have been forfeited to the Federal Government in a statement released by CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Service.
The distribution, according to the Comptroller General, will take place following the certification of each food item as suitable for human consumption.
He claims that the dedication is firmly ingrained in the Service’s primary duty, which is to promote economic stability and act in Nigeria’s best interests.
According to him, the pressing necessity justifies taking preventative action to protect Nigeria’s food supply and lessen the negative impacts of scarcity on its people.
He added, “Furthermore, to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians and improve access to essential food items, the Nigeria Customs Service will facilitate the direct disposal of food items forfeited to the Federal Government. These items will be certified fit for consumption by relevant agencies and made available to ordinary Nigerians nationwide through equitable distribution in our Areas of Operations.
“The modalities for the disposal will be communicated through NCS formations nationwide, with a firm commitment to transparency, fairness, and public safety. It is our pledge that this exercise will be managed diligently to ensure that the benefits reach those most in need.
“The NCS remains resolute in its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s food security and advancing the economic well-being of all Nigerians. With the unwavering support and cooperation of the public, we will surmount these challenges and pave the way for a more prosperous future for our beloved nation.”
