The Nigeria Police Force’s Kano State Command has said that 132 people have been taken into custody on suspicion of a number of offenses, including drug trafficking, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

Hussaini Gumel, the commissioner of state police, revealed the arrest’s specifics on Friday, revealing that the suspects were taken into custody over the course of two months in various parts of the state.

65 alleged thugs (Yandaba), 22 suspected thieves, 25 people involved in drug-related operations, 11 suspects in kidnapping, and 9 people suspected of trading forex illegally from the start of the year till today are among the suspects who have been detained.

Gumel noted at a news conference in Kano that at this time the command also arrested people who were engaged in a variety of illegal activities, including the theft of cars, motorbikes, tricycles, human trafficking, and other crimes.

Gumel also revealed that the police recovered a variety of products and items during the operations, in addition to successfully rescuing two victims of human trafficking and four kidnapped individuals.

Two AK-47 weapons, one pump-action rifle made in the area, and four live rounds make up these recoveries.

Gumel went on to say that since January 1st, there has been a notable decrease in major crimes across the state, including car theft, drug sales, kidnapping, armed robbery, and thuggery.

“The previous threats of daylight and night mobile phone armed robbery are now a story of the past, with no single record in the last two months,” he said, adding that the police command has been supported to fight more than two decades of public outcry on cases of missing children, abduction, and kidnapping of minors.

“The trend has been significantly surmounted as further efforts are ongoing to recover more and to unite the children with their biological parents,” Gumel added.

Gumel added that a large number of stolen cars were apprehended and recovered as a consequence of the operation’s effective dismantling of transnational syndicates of auto thieves.

In terms of illegal drug activity, the command successfully broke up the drug trade by capturing a significant number of drug traffickers and seizing a lot of illegal substances.

Gumel emphasized the coordinated efforts of the 17 front-line states’ border local government districts with other security services in conducting joint operations and raids in response to banditry.

He claimed that as a result, the camps and hideouts of the bandits were cleared away, which eventually decreased the number of banditry, abduction, and other connected crimes.

The Police Commissioner emphasized that by maintaining constant contact with the local communities, the command’s community policing efforts have successfully reduced the occurrence of seasonal farmer/herder conflicts in Makoda, Sumaila, and Tudun Wada local government areas.

“Robust collaborative policing and the sustained synergy with all security agencies in the state have been one of the vehicles yielding the positive results the police command is achieving.

“All these achievements by the Kano State Police Command were the result of compliance with and following up with the vision, mission, and guidance of the IGP Egbetokun,” Vanguard quoted Gumel saying.
