Babatunji Wusu –
Nine people have been detained in Delta State for the killings of police officers in the Ughelli region.
During Thursday’s force management meeting, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun confirmed the suspects’ arrests.
According to the police chief, the arrested persons are currently offering significant information to assist in the capture of those guilty for the killings.
On February 23, 2024, six police officers were sadly killed in Ohoro woodland, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
Six additional suspects in the killings remain at large.
These incidents took place at the same time as 17 military soldiers were slain in the oil-rich Delta State.
The soldiers died while on a peacekeeping assignment in the Okuama hamlet of Ughelli South Local Government Area. This incident provoked tremendous outrage and criticism throughout the country.
At their funeral service last week, military officials made a solemn commitment to find the attackers. They insisted that this unfortunate occurrence will not deter their unwavering efforts to eradicate illegal activity in the country.
President Bola Tinubu also commemorated the dead soldiers with posthumous national honors.
He also provided scholarships to help their children complete their schooling.
