Babatunji Wusu –
Three types of operators’ ability to receive new licenses has been temporarily suspended by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).
The Nigerian Communications Commission’s Director of Public Affairs Department, Reuben Muoka, signed a statement that the NCC released on Friday via its X account.
Licences for value-added service aggregators, interconnect exchange licenses, and mobile virtual network operators are among the categories that have been stopped.
According to the NCC, the suspension is in line with its authority to grant and renew licenses and encourage fair competition under the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003.
The temporary suspension, according to the commission, will allow for a comprehensive examination of a number of crucial areas, including market saturation, degree of competition, and present market dynamics.
It did point out that pending applications will continue to be evaluated on the basis of merit and are unaffected by the new rule.
