Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, noted that the assumption of Bola Tinubu reshuffling his cabinet as the government reaches one year in office on May 29 is not currently being considered. Onanuga emphasized that Tinubu has instructed the ministers to present their performance records, a process initiated last week. He expressed uncertainty about Tinubu’s intentions to remove poorly performing ministers, given their short time in office of just nine months. Instead of approving a grand anniversary celebration, the President requested the ministers to deliver their performance reports.

Some individuals have taken that step. We commenced on Thursday and Friday, and we will be adding additional ministers on Monday. The process will continue until we have included all significant ministers who have narratives to share and accomplishments to highlight.

“I am unsure if the President is considering replacing certain ministers. It’s important to note that these ministers are relatively new, having joined the government around late August, and have only been in their positions for about nine months.

“The President prefers to offer them a chance to demonstrate their performance over time.”

Assessing whether the ministers have fulfilled their responsibilities, Onanuga noted that a significant portion of the cabinet members have effectively carried out their duties. He further commented, “Several have performed admirably. Not all can perform at the same standard due to variations in ministry focus and responsibilities. However, many have shown dedication in aligning with the President’s 8-Point Agenda relevant to their respective ministries. In summary, a considerable number have excelled in their roles.”
