EX-COS BURATAI DEMANDS AN EARLY CESSATION OF INSURGENCY IN THE NORTHEAST’S LAKE CHAD REGION

In order to put an end to the violence in the Lake Chad Basin Region, military officials must expedite counter-insurgency operations, according to Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, a former chief of staff of the army.

Buratai said these things at the University of Maiduguri’s 1st International Conference, which was organized by the department of history and strategic studies in Borno State.

Buratai highlighted the need of preventing the battle from dragging on, as demonstrated by the protracted wars in Colombia and Sri Lanka, while applauding the military for their commitment and efforts in fighting illegal groups.

In order to properly address the security concerns in the region, the old CoS emphasized the crucial importance of military operations, which call for a coordinated effort integrating military intelligence, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, and collaboration with local authorities.

“We think this war ought to end quickly and not drag on like the ones in Columbia and Sri Lanka,” he declared.

Nine local government districts in Borno were regained by troops under the command of the former army chief in a span of five months.

Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, the vice-chancellor of the institution, emphasized in his speech the institution of Maiduguri’s fortitude in confronting and defeating four suicide bomber attacks on campus in a row.
