GOVERNMENT TAKES ACTION TO GIVE CHILDREN IN ALMAJIRI SPECIAL ID CARDS

A program to provide unique identification cards to youngsters who identify as Almajiri has been launched by the Gombe State administration.
The government is about to start gathering information on all Tsangaya Schools and Almajirai across the state, according to Sayyada Aminatu, the Special Advisor on Tsangaya and Almajirai to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.

She said that this project is a part of the government’s effort to improve the Almajirai educational system and obtain a deeper knowledge of their numbers and origins.

Aminatu added that in order to register every Almajirai in the state, her agency would work with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The Almajirai will receive identity cards to guarantee their freedom of movement and stop harassment.

Aminatu voiced her criticism of parents who fail to fulfill their obligations by leaving their kids in Tsangaya schools without making the necessary plans for their welfare.

She further said, “Everyone knows that the education system has changed, but these young children are seen roaming the streets and have become a nuisance at bus stops and other gatherings due to a lack of Western education.

“It is disheartening to notice almajirai spending the night in motor parks and markets. These young children have no means of survival due to the high cost of living.”
