The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has firmly rejected claims about a planned nationwide protest aimed at shutting down major cities. In an official statement, NANS Senate President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, clarified that the organization has not announced or endorsed any such action.

Afeez emphasized that the rumors circulating about NANS organizing a massive protest are entirely baseless and do not reflect the views or intentions of the association. He urged security agencies to act swiftly against those using NANS’s name to incite unrest or disrupt national peace.

The statement from NANS highlights the importance of upholding democratic processes and the rule of law in Nigeria. The organization expressed concern that the misuse of its name to spread dangerous misinformation poses a significant threat to national security and undermines the genuine efforts of students working for positive change through legitimate means.

NANS called on the public, media, and all stakeholders to ignore these false reports, condemning those responsible as faceless entities seeking to exploit the NANS name for malicious purposes. The leadership of NANS reiterated its commitment to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders, emphasizing that it does not support any actions that could lead to civil unrest or disrupt public order.

The statement concluded with a call for a thorough investigation into the origin of these false claims, urging security agencies to identify and hold accountable those spreading the misinformation. NANS remains dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students through peaceful, lawful, and constructive means, standing firmly for peace, progress, and national unity.

The organization expressed appreciation for the support of Nigerian students and the public, encouraging vigilance against those seeking to manipulate and mislead for selfish gains.
