Dinamo Zagreb manager Sergej Jakirovic has departed the club by mutual agreement following the team’s devastating 9-2 loss to Bayern Munich, marking a record for the most goals scored by a single team in a Champions League match. The match saw Harry Kane score four goals, becoming the highest-scoring English player in European Cup history, while Dinamo’s Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara managed to score consolation goals.
Jakirovic, 47, had been at the helm since February 2023, leading the team to its 25th league title and a Croatian Cup victory last season. In the wake of his departure, Sandro Perkovic, a member of Jakirovic’s coaching staff, has been appointed as caretaker manager.
Dinamo Zagreb’s President, Velimir Zajec, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the club’s interests and expressed gratitude for Jakirovic’s contributions, wishing him success in his future endeavors. Currently, Dinamo sits third in the domestic league standings with 13 points and is set to face Slaven Belupo on Saturday, followed by a Champions League match against AS Monaco on October 2.
