Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has declared that the victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 governorship election is a divine affirmation from God. He asserted that Okpebholo is poised to rectify the shortcomings experienced during the eight-year tenure of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oshiomhole, who previously served as the national chairman of the APC, emphasized that the party does not endorse a “do-or-die” approach to elections; rather, it respects the power of ordinary citizens to elect and remove their leaders. He characterized Obaseki’s administration as disastrous, asserting that Edo State has been spared further calamity with the defeat of PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo.
Speaking on Sunday evening in response to Okpebholo’s success, Oshiomhole stated, “Everything that God cannot do does not exist. When individuals boast of their power, wise people recognize that true authority lies with God. While some may view elections as a fight to the finish, we believe in the collective strength of the people to hire and fire.”
He concluded by thanking God for the peaceful conduct of the campaign, noting, “Today, by His infinite power, God has ordained Senator Monday Okpebholo to address the eight years of hardship brought by Obaseki and Ighodalo.”
