Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has publicly criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki, labeling him an ingrate who has “bitten the hand that fed him.” In an interview with Arise TV, Shaibu reacted to the results of the 2024 governorship election, expressing that he feels vindicated against those who doubted his electoral viability.

Shaibu noted that he does not consider Obaseki an enemy but is pleased with the election outcome, which favored the All Progressives Congress (APC). He asserted that it is now evident that Obaseki cannot win elections independently, having relied on support from others to achieve past victories.

Mocking Obaseki’s failure to secure his local government area for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shaibu advised the outgoing governor to begin seeking forgiveness from the people of Edo State. “I feel vindicated; even the governor couldn’t win his local government. I won my unit, ward, and local government. Where are the governor’s results? He has never won; we always assisted him. Now, he should go back and start begging and apologizing to the people of Edo State,” Shaibu stated.
