Borno Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has established a committee to oversee the disbursement of relief funds and items for victims of the recent flood disaster affecting the state. This committee includes representatives from various organizations, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement issued by Hon. Bukar Tijjani, Secretary to the Borno State Government, Zulum emphasized that the inclusion of these organizations aims to ensure transparency in the distribution of funds. The committee is chaired by Engr. Baba Bukar Gujubawu, Special Adviser for Monitoring and Evaluation, with Prof. Ibrahim Umara from the University of Maiduguri serving as Co-Chairman. Additional members include representatives from the EFCC, ICPC, Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The committee also comprises representatives from the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), the Ministry of Sport Development, Youth Development and Poverty Alleviation, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA).

Governor Zulum urged committee members to fulfill their responsibilities with dedication and transparency, stressing the importance of their work for the affected communities. The Borno State Government plans to begin distributing donated items and cash to flood victims today, having received over N12 billion in donations from individuals, groups, and organizations to assist those impacted by the disaster in Maiduguri, the state capital.
