Enyimba has emerged as the sole surviving Nigerian club in continental competitions after defeating Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante 3-2 on penalties in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. This victory came shortly after Nigerian champions Rangers were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Angola’s Sagrada Esperança.

In the first leg, held in Abidjan, Enyimba and Etoile Filante ended in a goalless draw. The return leg in Uyo also concluded without goals, leading to a penalty shootout. Enyimba successfully converted three of their first five penalty attempts, while Etoile Filante managed only two, resulting in a thrilling 3-2 aggregate win for Enyimba, igniting celebrations among their fans.

With this victory, Enyimba advances to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. Meanwhile, Rangers were knocked out of the Champions League after losing 3-1 to Sagrada Esperança, finishing with a 3-2 aggregate score, following their initial 1-0 win in the first leg.
