– Political Context: Tenebe blames the PDP’s loss on the current governor’s influence.
Jeret Tenebe, the Chairman of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his hopes that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will continue to conduct elections with the same integrity demonstrated during the recent governorship election. He described the election as the fairest he has witnessed, firmly dismissing allegations of electoral rigging in favor of APC’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo.
Speaking to reporters, Tenebe emphasized that if INEC maintains its current practices, Nigeria can expect a more robust electoral process. “Our party cannot rig elections, as we are not INEC. The recent election was the fairest ever conducted in this state, and we pray INEC continues in this manner,” he stated.
Tenebe further highlighted the potential for development under Governor-elect Okpebholo, pledging to empower women and youth in the state. He attributed the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to the influence of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“This victory is significant for Edo State and its people. Okpebholo will foster development and unity within the state,” Tenebe affirmed. He added that the new administration would mark a departure from the previous government’s practices, indicating a fresh start for the state.
