Students and staff of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who were taken hostage by bandits, have successfully regained their freedom after spending seven months in captivity. The individuals were abducted during an attack in February of this year.
Zagazola Makama, a prominent security analyst, confirmed their release through a social media post, stating, “Abducted students of Federal University Gusau and staff regain freedom.” While specific details regarding their rescue remain unclear, it has been reported that security forces played a crucial role in facilitating their release.
This news brings much-needed relief to the families and the academic community that have anxiously awaited the safe return of their loved ones. Makama noted that all the abducted individuals have returned in good health.
In September 2023, reports emerged indicating that a significant group of bandits had invaded the students’ living quarters, resulting in a large-scale abduction, primarily involving female students. According to local resident Abubakar Sani, the attack occurred around 4:00 AM, targeting multiple dormitories.
