President Bola Tinubu’s administration has approved the construction of 40 houses for judges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This initiative was confirmed by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The housing project, aligned with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to provide secure and comfortable accommodations for judiciary members. The homes will be built in the Kantampe District, with allocations of 20 for the FCT High Court, 10 for the Federal High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal. Wike stated that the project is expected to be completed within 15 months.

Wike emphasized the importance of judges having proper housing, noting that living in rented accommodations or hotels is not safe or convenient for their work. Additionally, the FEC approved infrastructure projects to enhance access to the judicial complex, including roads connecting to the judges’ residences and improvements to internal pathways.

The minister also mentioned plans to develop over 75 kilometers of roads in surrounding satellite towns and announced the cancellation of a previous agreement for the Maitama 2 development due to delays. A new bidding process will be initiated to address housing shortages in the capital.
