The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest of six individuals during the recent Edo governorship election, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful electoral process. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba announced the arrests at a press briefing, revealing the recovery of several stolen or illegally acquired Biometric Voter Authentication System (BIVAS) machines, weapons, and 58 voter cards found in the possession of one suspect.

Mba stated, “We expect this number to increase as investigations continue,” highlighting the possibility of further accomplices. He reported the recovery of four different types of weapons and live ammunition during the operation. The police have activated post-election strategies, including increased patrols and high-visibility policing, to maintain safety and security throughout the state.

He commended the Edo populace for their peaceful conduct during the election and assured them of ongoing safety measures. “The election was violence-free, with no recorded incidents of kidnapping, assault, or arson,” Mba emphasized, praising the professionalism of police personnel and other law enforcement agencies involved. He urged citizens to continue adhering to the law and reassured them of enhanced security as they return to their homes.
