Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged Nigerians to celebrate the nation’s 64th anniversary, highlighting that the continued unity of the country is a significant achievement. In his Independence Day message on Tuesday, he noted that Nigeria’s 64 years of independence have been marked by both successes and failures.

Kwankwaso stated, “Each 1st of October, we unite to reflect on the noble labor of our forefathers who fought for Nigeria’s independence. While these 64 years have brought their share of challenges, we can take pride in the fact that our country has remained united through adversity.” He emphasized the collective responsibility of citizens, asserting that the country belongs to all and urging them to strive for a prosperous and functional Nigeria for future generations.

Additionally, former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, in his own Independence Day message, called upon leaders to take decisive actions for the benefit of the country. He wrote, “Leaders must have the courage to stand against the tide. They must speak when others remain silent and act when others hesitate. They take risks, not merely for the sake of risk, but because they believe in a higher purpose that justifies such actions.”
