President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to leave Abuja today for the United Kingdom, embarking on a two-week vacation as part of his annual leave. This was announced by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who indicated that the President intends to use this time as a working vacation to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms, with a planned return after the leave period.

In contrast, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticized Tinubu’s recent announcement of a 30-day National Youth Conference, claiming it serves as a distraction from his administration’s shortcomings. HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, described the conference as a wasteful initiative that superficially addresses youth issues while failing to confront pressing problems such as poor infrastructure, economic stagnation, and high unemployment. The association labeled the event a “cash-guzzling charade” that ultimately aims to obscure the government’s failures rather than deliver tangible benefits to Nigerian youths.
